Votiva Q & A

What is Votiva?

Votiva is a safe and effective treatment that uses radiofrequency waves to offer a wide range of benefits to the vaginal area. In fact, it’s the only radiofrequency device that has been FDA-approved for urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, and vaginal insensitivity.

It’s ideal for women who are experiencing changes they would like to reverse due to menopause or those who recently had children and want to restore their vaginal area.

Some of the benefits of Votiva treatments include:

  • Tightening of the vaginal canal
  • Reduction of painful intercourse due to vaginal dryness
  • Reduction of stress incontinence
  • Reduction of urinary urgency
  • Increased vaginal sensitivity
  • Improved, more youthful vaginal appearance

How do Votiva treatments work?

Votiva is unique because it uses two different devices to deliver the right radiofrequency to the targeted areas. Its first wand, the FormaV, uses a gentle head to stimulate tissue, increasing collagen and elastin. The uptick in both collagen and elastin tightens lax tissue and encourages moisture production.

The tissue tightening can reduce incontinence, particularly stress incontinence (e.g. incontinence caused by laughing, sneezing, or exercising), and reduce urinary urgency symptoms.

The second wand, the FractoraV, can be used to transform the labia majora. It delivers radiofrequency energy directly to the area, heating and coagulating the tissue to tighten and remodel the labia majora.

Dr. Peters is extremely experienced at using both wands and will ensure that the proper radiofrequency is applied to achieve your desired results. He can use a localized numbing cream to maintain your comfort throughout the entire treatment.

What can I expect from Votiva?

Generally, Dr. Peters will recommend a series of three treatments to help you achieve the best results. The second treatment will be scheduled two weeks after the first, with the final treatment following six weeks after the second. You’ll start to see a transformation immediately after your first treatment, but the results will become increasingly impressive after each session.

There is no downtime after a Votiva treatment. You can immediately continue with your daily activities with two exceptions. For 48 hours after your procedure, it’s recommended that you avoid baths (showering is fine) and sexual activity.
