Intense pulsed light (IPL) has been heralded as a game-changing innovation for clearing facial irregularities, including sun and age spots. That said, it usually takes a handful of sessions to truly work. Or, it did, until Lumecca by InMode came on the scene. Mark H. Peters, MD, uses this innovative technology to deliver dramatic IPL results to his patients in Houma, Louisiana. For more information, call his office or book your appointment online today.

Lumecca Q & A

What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light, or IPL, is an innovative photofacial treatment. It works by targeting light into the skin, heating up the dermis (the second layer of your skin) to the point that darker spots are pulled to the surface of the skin. The pigment in those darker areas absorbs the heat from the light, which causes them to break down.

Eventually, your body processes them out (you’ll notice them flaking off your face in particles that look like fine coffee grounds), leaving you with clear, unblemished skin.

IPL can be used to target a range of facial issues, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Rosacea
  • Birthmarks
  • Broken blood vessels

If you have any darkening or discoloration that is affecting your complexion, IPL is an ideal solution.

What is Lumecca?

The primary problem with IPL facials has been their inability to work in single sessions. Most patients have needed as many as six separate IPL treatments to deliver their desired results. So, while IPL can be highly effective, it isn’t very efficient.

Lumecca changes that. It offers the fastest IPL results available today. Lumecca delivers as much as three times more energy than traditional IPL technology, making your single IPL facial significantly more effective. In fact, Lumecca may be able to unlock your desired results in a single session.

Lumecca is primarily used for spots on the face, but it can also be effectively used anywhere on the body to reveal clearer, more even skin.

What can I expect during and after my Lumecca treatment?

During your Lumecca IPL facial, you may see bright flashes of light as it works.

You can continue on with your day immediately after. Your skin may be slightly red, but you can return to work and your usual activities with the help of a little concealer. In the following week, your body will process out the unwanted pigment and it will flake off, leaving you with clearer, more beautiful skin.
