While many consider vaginal rejuvenation being about improving the appearance of the vulvar area or tightening the vaginal canal, Votiva offers treatment of symptoms which affect the way you travel (urinary urgency), exercise (stress incontinence), have intercourse sex (pain due to dryness), or even laughing(stress incontinence). Women are commonly affected by hormonal changes associated with menopause. Post-menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness, loss of sensitivity, and painful sexual intercourse affect the quality of life. Vaginal rejuvenation is also for women who have delivered a child vaginally which limits or changes their lifestyle because of urinary stress incontinence or urgency symptoms. And, of course, Votiva addresses concerns women may have about the appearance of the external vulvar area by creating a more youthful appearance of these areas.

There are two distinguishing facts that describe Votiva which sets it apart from all other devices used for vaginal rejuvenation. First and foremost is the fact that Votiva is the only FDA cleared device to treat urinary incontinence and symptoms such as vaginal dryness and loss of vaginal and vulvar sensitivity. Second is the use of bipolar radiofrequency. While other devices utilize laser or monopolar radiofrequency, Votiva uses two different wands, the FormaV and FractoraV, each designed for treatment of specific areas. The advanced and unique bipolar design allows each wand to deliver radiofrequency energy in a safe, uniform, and efficient manner. It is the only device that uses real-time temperature display allowing the tissues to reach the necessary temperature to stimulate collagen and elastin formation. More importantly, this mechanism delivers the energy safely.

The FormaV wand is designed to treat the vaginal canal as well as the labia minor, clitoris, and urethral opening. Using heat to remodel the tissues, conditions such as labial hypertrophy (enlarged labia minora) can be treated. As the tissues are comfortably heated to a temperature required to stimulate the tissues to manufacture collagen and elastin, increased vascularity in the walls of the vaginal canal results in less dryness and a tightening of lax tissues. It will also relieve some of the urinary urgency symptoms or stress incontinence associated with normal activity such as laughing or exercising. The FractoraV wand is designed for bulk heating so is used primarily to remodel the labia majora. Numbing cream is recommended prior to this treatment to make the procedure more comfortable.

In order to achieve optimal results, we recommend a series of 3 treatments. After the initial treatment, patients typically experience immediate changes, but more substantial relief of symptoms occur after the second treatment which occurs two weeks later. The final treatment is 6 weeks after the first in order to take advantage of the collagen and elastin formation which is rapidly increasing at this point. There is no downtime or restrictions in terms of day to day activities. We suggest taking showers for 48 hours following your treatment because the heating of the vaginal canal by the FormaV may cause your bath to be uncomfortable. For patients having the FractoraV we recommend avoiding sexual activity for 48 hours.

Dr. Peters, his wife, Dr. Michelle Simon, and nurses Hope Bagala and Tona Savoie form the team that will help determine if Votiva is right for you. After meeting with one of the team members and having all of your questions answered, you will be able to schedule your procedure with our Patient Care Coordinator, Maria Schexnayder.
Your procedure will then be performed by one of our specially trained nurses.

What does Votiva do?

Votiva can help solve issues that are a result of the normal aging process and vaginal childbirth. Post-menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness and laxity of the vaginal tissues can be improved with Votiva. The changes that occur after vaginal childbirth such as urinary stress incontinence (or urgency) and laxity of the vulvar areas can be improved with Votiva.

How does Votiva work?

Votiva uses bipolar radiofrequency energy to treat the target tissues using heat. When the heat is applied to these tissues, they will respond by increasing collagen and elastin production. Votiva delivers this energy using two different designs: the Forma V and the Fractora V. The Forma V is designed to treat the internal vaginal canal as well as the external vulvar areas. The Fractora V is used to target the external vulvar areas.

Am I a candidate for Votiva?

If you have undergone menopause or are experiencing symptoms similar to post menopausal women, Votiva may be right for you. This treatment is also effective for women who have given birth and experience urinary urgency symptoms. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for Votiva is to call and schedule a consult with one of our staff members who will answer all of your questions.

What is Forma V?

FormaV is a non-invasive and versatile probe designed to comfortably and safely treat the internal vaginal canal and external vulvar tissues. Using exquisitely advanced technology, the bipolar design safely delivers the radiofrequency energy uniformly and allows the tissues to tolerate the heat required to stimulate collagen and elastin formation. This is critical to improving laxity of the vaginal and vulvar tissues, vaginal dryness, and urinary stress incontinence. Forma V treats the entire internal vaginal canal and the external vulvar region, including the labia majora, labia majora, clitoris, and the urethral opening.

What is Fractora V?

FractoraV delivers bipolar radiofrequency using micropin technology. This enables Votiva to deliver energy deeper into the tissues and utilizes bulk heating. This is particularly effective in treating the labia majora.

How long does this procedure take?

Each Votiva treatment takes about 30 minutes. We recommend a series of 3 treatments for maximal benefit.

Are the results permanent?

No treatment that involves the aging process is considered permanent as we continue to age, changes continue to occur. It does, however, reset the clock on the aging tissues. In most cases a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months may be required to maintain the results achieved after the initial series.

What does this treatment feel like? Does this procedure hurt?

The treatment feels similar to a vaginal ultrasound. The treatment typically begins with the nurse gently inserting the Votiva FormaV wand into the vaginal canal using gel lubricant. The main sensation the patient will feel is mild warmth. The external FormaV/FractoraV will feel similar. For FractoraV treatment, a mild numbing cream will be applied to the external areas to be treated prior to the procedure.

Is there any down time?

No. Following the FormaV treatment, you may resume any normal activity, including sexual activity. We recommend not taking a hot bath for 48 hours since it may be uncomfortable due to the heat caused by the radiofrequency energy. But you may shower as you like. Following the FractoraV, we recommend not taking hot baths and avoiding sexual activity for 48 hours. You may resume all of your normal activities after 48 hours.
