Tips for Consultation Confidence

Deciding to have plastic surgery can be a nerve-wracking process.  Many people experience concern over choosing the right Doctor, which procedure to receive and managing the time off of everyday life for healing.  The most important part of this process is to have a consultation with the Doctor or Doctors that you feel you’d be most comfortable with.  Read our tips below to learn more about how to manage the process and gain your confidence about your plastic surgery decisions during your consultation.

#1. Expect to pay a fee for the consultation

A lot of people have questions about surgery and the consultation is meant for this.  But let’s face the facts, professionals should not be expected to give free advice.  You wouldn’t expect a dermatologist to tell you how to treat your skin for free, or a therapist to help you through your struggles for free.  Professionals spend years of their life learning their trade, so expect to pay for their knowledge and experience.  Your willingness to pay the consultation fee lets the Doctor know that you are committed to your interest in surgery.

#2. Bring a loved one for support

There are a lot of people who may want to be involved in your surgical experience or have questions of their own. We suggest you bring ONE loved one with you to your consultation.  Either your spouse, parent, sibling, friend..whomever you are most comfortable with.  It will help you to feel a bit more relaxed, and they may have some questions to ask that you might not have thought of!

#3. Bring a list of questions written down to ask your Plastic Surgeon

This step is so important!  Often times people come for a consultation and forget questions they would have liked to ask.  If you bring a list with your questions written down, then you will get all the answers to your questions and it ensures you won’t forget! You can also refer back to this list with your answers written down in the future if you would like.

#4. Determine if you will need financing options beforehand

Financing is a great way to match your surgical goals with everyday life.  Determining if this is necessary before your consultation is very helpful, and will aid in the flow and ease of your consultation.  If you would like to book surgery ASAP, and need financing, you can apply before your consultation.  Knowing how much you have been approved for beforehand will help us to move the process along and get your surgery booked as soon as possible!

#5. Do your research from credible websites and organizations

This is CRUCIAL to setting your expectations and your understanding of the surgical process.  Credible websites and organizations will provide you with information that is accurate, relevant and detailed.  We recommend the following websites and organizations as places for you to read up on for more information:

#6. Be honest

Being honest during your consultation is the only way to ensure that you and the Doctor are on the same page with realistic expectations and goals. Be forthcoming with your medical history, personal information and expectations so that there are no misunderstandings.

We hope these tips are helpful for you! Remember, the goal is always to provide you with the highest level of care and bring you closer to your desired image.  Call us at 985.223.2602 to guarantee your spot in our schedule for a consultation with your new found consultation confidence!
